For Residence Halls & University Apartments
Unauthorized possession, use, or storage of weapons in Residence Halls, Apartments or at a University-sponsored activities is prohibited. A weapon is any object or device designed or used to inflict injury, threaten injury, or incapacitate, and includes but is not limited to firearms (except as permitted by Texas law), pellet or air guns, projectile tasers, slingshots, martial arts weapons, switchblade knives, clubs, and devices that launch or project objects.
Personal pepper spray and personal non-projectile stun devices may be possessed or used solely for lawful self-defense; however, any unlawful or reckless use or display of these or any other weapon – whether legally possessed or not – is prohibited.
In addition, the following items are prohibited from being used inside of any Residence hall, University Apartment or public area: airsoft guns, paintball guns and Nerf guns.
Those legally permitted to possess and carry a handgun must follow all state and federal laws concerning owning and possessing a handgun on campus. Any resident who is legally permitted to carry a handgun and chooses to bring the handgun into their room/apartment must store the handgun and ammunition in an electronic locking steel safe that has been rented or purchased from the Department of Residence Life. Ammunition is permitted only as allowed under Texas law. The unsafe or improper storage or handling of ammunition is prohibited.
Residents found violating any part of this rule may be subject to both University and criminal charges and may be removed from University housing.
