About Residence Life

The Department of Residence Life is housed within the Division of Student Affairs. We work as a cohesive team to fulfill our stated mission and visionary goals. Our staff is dedicated, dynamic and student-centered. From our live-in staff to our central office, we all take great pride in our work and are committed to the safety and success of our residents. Our mission is to provide a welcoming, educational and sustainable community living at the heart of the Aggie experience while offering a world-class transformational living and learning experience for on-campus residents.

RESPECT STATEMENT

Our community is unique at Texas A&M University and is defined by students and staff working and living together in a campus residential environment of residence halls, apartments and administrative offices. Together, we strive to utilize differences to enhance our community, and believe that differences provide opportunities for maximum growth and mutual understanding. Therefore, we are committed to creating an educational community of respect, support and opportunities for celebration for all individuals.

Strategic Priorities

Inclusive & Caring Communities

We cultivate a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where all people are valued and experience a true sense of belonging. We honor and embrace differences, creating communities where individuals can connect meaningfully and pursue their own definition of success. To support this commitment, we host engagement initiatives for residents, staff, and faculty each semester, and we ensure that all programs, services, and facilities remain welcoming and accessible for everyone.

Investing in our Staff

We cultivate a culture of growth and professional development through intentional networking opportunities, training, and guidance, while supporting employees with resources, appropriate accommodations, and ongoing developmental conversations to ensure success in the workplace. This commitment includes providing both internal and external opportunities for personal and professional development, as well as implementing creative approaches to recruit, recognize, and retain staff.

Leveraging Resources

We effectively utilize financial, technical, physical, and human resources to maximize output through intentional evaluation, collaboration, and planning, while proactively identifying needs, distributing resources equitably, and making information about available resources easy to access. This includes maintaining, renovating, and building facilities that offer students a range of amenities at various price points, using data to find creative solutions to new and existing challenges, and being responsible financial stewards to keep rent prices within local market norms.

Student Learning through Engagement

We facilitate meaningful, interactive experiences that empower students to build skills and form connections that support their success in college and beyond. This commitment includes providing transformational opportunities for residents to develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills, as well as integrating moments for students to connect their learning with real‑world professional experiences through reflective analysis.

Telling Our Story

We demonstrate the added value and impact that living on campus brings to the Aggie experience by creating meaningful connections with a wide range of audiences through data, marketing, and community networks that highlight our capabilities, assets, and character. This includes increasing the volume and reach of marketing and communication to students, families, donors, and external audiences, as well as strengthening department staff knowledge of the Residence Life mission, impact, and brand.

Well-being

We demonstrate the added value and impact that living on campus brings to the Aggie experience by connecting with diverse audiences through data, marketing, and community networks that showcase our capabilities, assets, and character. We also create environments that prioritize holistic well‑being as a foundation for success and happiness, linking students and staff to supportive services and encouraging a healthy balance between work, academics, and life. This commitment includes integrating holistic well‑being into programs, services, and facilities, and collaborating with campus and community partners to enhance both accessibility to and awareness of well‑being resources.
