Rules & Procedures

Noise

For Residence Halls & University Apartments

Sound carries easily. Voices, stereos, televisions and large indoor gatherings can often be heard next door, above and below you. Remember that while you have a right to listen to music of your choice, other residents have a right to sleep, study or listen to music of their choice without disturbance. You may be asked by other residents or staff to adjust the sound/noise level to reduce the disturbance to others around you. Please be considerate and flexible. The playing of musical instruments is permitted within your room/apartment as long as it does not disturb others

Quiet Hours

Designated quiet hours are posted in each community, and are from 8 pm-7 a.m. daily. During quiet hours, residents should keep the level of noise to a point where it cannot be heard in another student’s room or hallways.

Courtesy Hours

Courtesy hours are in effect at all times. It is important that residents are aware of their responsibility to monitor their behavior, regardless of the time of day, so as to not interfere with the lifestyles of others. If a student or staff member asks you to be quieter, regardless of the time of day, your compliance is expected.

24 Hour Quiet Hours

During finals week, 24-hour quiet hours are observed to facilitate a study oriented atmosphere. Students remaining in the halls after their last exam and alleged to be responsible for causing a disturbance may be required to leave the residence halls immediately.

Early Arrival

For University Apartments Only

Early Arrival is defined as when a student would like to arrive to move in to on-campus housing earlier than the official opening/move-in date outlined in their lease agreement/contract. Approval must be obtained prior to arrival and move in and there is a fee assessed for each day they are living on campus before the official opening/move-in date.

The University Apartments (The Gardens Apartments and White Creek Apartments) each have an official date every semester when they open for occupancy. If a resident needs to arrive to move in before the official opening date, approval must be obtained. Once the resident has their assignment they may apply for early arrival online by logging in to myHousing Portal and clicking on Annual Housing Orientation. At the completion of the Annual Housing Orientation the resident will be presented with a check-in appointment calendar where they will be able to schedule their check-in appointment. They must have completed the online orientation before the check-in calendar will allow them to schedule a check-in appointment. Approvals for early arrival are dependent upon unit availability. There is an early arrival fee assessed for each day they are living on campus before the official opening date.

Refer to How-To’s & Procedures > Annual Housing Orientation  for more detailed information.

Grills

For Corps Halls Only

Outdoor cooking appliances and equipment (grills, hibachis, deep fryers, barbecues, etc.) may be used outside the residence halls only; cadets should contact the Office of the Commandant to request approval to bring grills onto the quad. These appliances and/or equipment (and the flame source used such as charcoal, lighter fluid, etc.) cannot be stored in rooms, closets, bathrooms, common areas of the hall, or outside on the quad as they pose a fire safety hazard. While in use, these appliances and/or equipment must be attended to at all times and remain at a safe distance (minimum of 15 feet) from all buildings and trees to avoid fire, fire hazard and/or smoke irritation to residents. Additionally, vehicles may NOT be driven onto the Quad for the purpose of delivering or retrieving grills.
