Business Ventures in On-Campus Housing

For Residence Halls and Corps Halls

Per the housing contract, residents are prohibited from using their residence hall room as the base of operations in order to conduct activity directly related to a business venture of any type.

Appliances & Equipment

For Corps Halls Only

The following appliances are not allowed in the University Apartments or Residence Halls.

Prohibited appliances and equipment include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Refrigerators larger than 4.4 cubic feet (including the freezer) 
  • Microwaves that exceed 700 watts 
  • Camping stoves, electric skillets, or other items using an open heating element (except standard coffee pots) 
  • Griddles, grills (George Foreman type, charcoal, or propane), panini presses 
  • Hot plates, sandwich makers, toasters and toaster ovens (res halls only) 
  • Ceiling fans, unless installed by the Department of Residence Life 
  • Dishwashers, except where furnished in apartments by the Department of Residence Life 
  • Electric Power Tools (with exception of storage for use outside the buildings) 
  • Gas Power Tools 
  • Halogen Torchiere lamps 
  • Hot oil popcorn poppers 
  • Induction Cooking appliances 
  • Pressure Cookers, “Instant Pot” type cookers  
  • Space heaters 
  • Washers and Dryers, except where furnished by the Department of Residence Life 
  • Window Unit Air Conditioners, except where provided by the Department of Residence Life

Bicycles / Motorcycles

For Corps Halls Only

Bicycle and motorcycle parking should be restricted to available motorcycle lots and bicycle racks. These vehicles may be impounded if they are left in walkways, breezeways, sidewalks, or hallways. Motorcycles and other motor vehicles are not allowed to be driven on any non-roadway area, pathway, sidewalk, handicapped ramp, etc. Mopeds are considered the same as motorcycles and should follow the same regulations. Although bicycles may be stored in residence hall rooms with the consent of the roommate, motorcycles, mopeds, motor scooters, and other internal combustion engine vehicles should never be brought into the residence halls. Gasoline cans should never be stored in the residence halls.

Arson / Campfires

For Corps Halls Only

Starting a fire within a residence hall or within the immediate surroundings outside a residence hall is strictly prohibited at all times. Violations of this rule, which may also be considered violations of state law, include setting fire to items on a room door or bulletin board or any other flammable material in the hall, as well as starting outdoor fires in non-designated areas. Grilling in designated grill areas is acceptable.

Annual Housing Orientation

For Corps Halls Only

All Corps of Cadets residents must complete a mandatory online Annual Housing Orientation prior to moving in or Residence Life staff will not be able to issue you your room key. The orientation is accessed by logging in to myHousing Portal and clicking on Annual Housing Orientation. Instructions for completing the orientation were emailed to your TAMU student email account.If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Corps Housing Office at 979.845.3443.

Candles / Incense / Wax Warmers / Open Flames

For Corps Halls Only

Candles, candle warmers, incense, oil lamps, and other devices which use an open flame (including potpourri pots) are prohibited in residence halls. Items will be confiscated and residents will be subject to disciplinary action.

Storage of propane tanks, charcoal and charcoal starter-fluid, and tiki/party torches and torch fluid as well as any accelerant or incendiary agent in any area of the dormitories including but not limited to rooms, restrooms, vending rooms, and hallways is strictly prohibited.

Cancellation Fees

For Corps Halls Only

The Housing contract is for the entire academic year. Housing charges are billed each semester and are subject to change without notice.

If a student terminates this contract for the Fall Semester, the student will be responsible for the following:

Charges for Fall Semester (New to Housing Students):

  • Prior to May 1 – No Penalty
  • May 2 to May 30 – $500.00
  • June 1 to August 14 – $1,000.00
  • August 15 (or after move-in) – 100% of Fall Semester Rent

Charges for Fall Semester (Returning Students):

  • Prior to July 14 – No Penalty
  • After July 15 – Student follows the returner schedule based on the date of cancellation

If a student terminates this contract for the Spring Semester, the student will be responsible for the following:

Charges for Spring Semester (New to Spring Assigned Students Only):

  • Prior to December 1 – No Penalty
  • December 1 to Jan 14 – $500.00
  • January 15 (or after student has moved in) – 100% of Spring Semester Rent

Charges for Spring Semester (Returning Students):

Students who cancel their housing assignment after the student has moved in for the Fall are subject to 100% of the Spring Semester Rent.
