Academic Peer Mentor Overview
Academic Peer Mentors provide a variety of services to help A&M students reach their version of academic success! Our staff is filled with a large range of majors/minors and career paths that are relatable to all students. We provide informational programs, student one-on-ones and academic coaching for all students at A&M. Stop by our offices to check out what we can do for you!
Academic Check-Ups (ACUs)
Academic Check-Ups (ACUs) are 1-on-1 meetings with an APM to discuss academic strategies, campus resources or general college life. Meeting frequency and meeting length is up to the mentee and thus gives the student freedom to discuss any and all concerns they may have. Sign up for an ACU today

These programs benefit residents by promoting a healthy, well-rounded university experience with a focus on academics. REVTalks
REVTalks are campus-wide events where panelists discuss academic topics and share their experiences. Past topics have focused on study abroad, test prep, ETAM and more.
How to Become an APM
Applications are available via the jobs for Aggies Student Employment Office, found online at jobsforaggies.tamu.edu. After an applicant has submitted all requested application items (application questions and résumé), they will be contacted via email with the application status.
For candidates offered interviews, there will be a Group Process & Individual interview with a date and location to be announced via email. Those selected for the position must attend mandatory training before the start of each semester.
In the past, APM training has been scheduled 1-2 weeks before the start of each semester. If APMs participate in a student organization that has a conflicting event during this time, Residence Life will ask that they attend training. Competing academic commitments will be approved on a case-by-case basis.
The Academic Peer Mentor application available via jobsforaggies.tamu.edu includes basic demographic information including Grade Point Ratio, Major(s), Minor(s), contact information and other common information. In addition to the demographic information, applicants will be asked to submit the following documents.
Professional Résumé: On a separate sheet of paper, submit a professional résumé (maximum two (2) pages, but one (1) page preferred) with this application outlining your job experience, leadership or organizational involvement, awards/honors and other information you feel is relevant.
Remember to list any extracurricular involvement at Texas A&M University. Do not include references here. We recommend visiting the Career Center to get feedback on your résumé. The Career Center offers walk-in hours for résumé review.
• Provide regular, one-on-one peer academic coaching to students who live on campus
• Raise academic expectations with engagement and compassion through programs and services
• Serving as a resource to connect students with programs and initiatives that enhance learning and success
• Partnering with hall staff to foster campus community and feelings of belonging on-campus
• Offer opportunities for academic and personal development within the residence halls
Minimum Qualifications: APMs are expected to have at least one year of on-campus living experience, possess full-time student status and maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Ratio.
Academic Peer Mentor Compensation includes an hourly starting compensation of $13.50 and increases yearly.
APMs with at least one semester of experience can apply for the Senior Academic Peer Mentor position, which starts at an hourly salary of $15.75.
2nd year salary:
• APM: $13.80
• SAPM: $16.05
3rd year salary:
• APM: $14.20
• SAPM: $16.45
4th year salary:
• APM: $14.75
• SAPM: $17
Training is mandatory for all Academic Peer Mentors. APM training will begin 1-2 weeks before Howdy Week for the fall semester. During training weeks (one week for fall and one week for spring), APM training will be the priority.
