HONORS HOUSING COMMUNITY
Prior to Fall 2025, first-year students accepted into the University Honors Program were required to live in the Honors Housing Community (HHC) located in Lechner and McFadden Halls. Starting in Fall 2025, participation in the HHC will be optional for incoming freshmen.
The HHC is the cornerstone of the University Honors Program first-year experience, offering an enriching and supportive environment that fosters academic excellence, personal growth, and lifelong friendships. Students participating in the HHC challenge each other to go beyond the traditional classroom to explore their coursework at a broader, deeper, and more complex level.
The HHC is supported by volunteer Peer Mentors colloquially known as Sophomore (SA) and Junior Advisors (JA). More than just Peer Mentors, the SA and JA live in the dorms with freshmen and host exciting events throughout the semester that help freshmen become more acclimated to life at Texas A&M University. Some of our signature events include Murder Mystery (an interactive play where first-year students solve a mysterious murder occurring around Halloween that is completely organized and run by the Sophomore Advisors) and Cheers to Careers (where students make connections with faculty and professionals across a variety of industries).
By the end of the year, students are better equipped to identify personal values, what is needed to push themselves towards excellence, and how it all fits together with their long-term goals. The number 1 benefit cited by students who have participated in the HHC is the strong sense of community that is developed during their first year at Texas A&M University. From social gatherings to study groups, you'll always find support and camaraderie in the HHC.
Only students participating in the University Honors Program are eligible to live in the HHC. Students can participate in other Honors programs (such as Engineering Honors) and live in the HHC as long as they are part of the University Honors Program.
