Texas A&M Students Earn Honors At Regional Conference
On Feb. 27, 2026, Texas A&M University students traveled to Denton, Texas to represent The Department of Residence Life at the Southwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls for the Regional Business Conference (SWACURH).

On Feb. 27, 2026, Texas A&M University students traveled to Denton, Texas to represent The Department of Residence Life at the Southwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls for the Regional Business Conference (SWACURH), earning several awards and leadership positions while meeting and connecting with members across the region.
Associate Director Christine Thoorsell and Community Manager Jonathan Gaytan traveled with student leaders, Cody Cox ’27, Madeleine Altman ’28 and Jason Starks ’28. The conference was the first Regional Business Conference for all three students.
Throughout the weekend, the students participated in boardroom discussions, collaborated with other institutions, students and contributed to student leadership and residence life initiatives.
Their dedication, hard work, and leadership were recognized with several distinctions
They received the awards for the NRHH Building Block of the Year, as well as awards for Best Institutional Banner, Best Clothespin and Most Spirited Delegation.
Two students were also elected to leadership roles for the region.
Cox was elected Associate Director of Administration and Finance, and Starks was elected Coordinating Officer for Media and Technology.
In addition, Altman and Starks were each awarded a Golden Duck; a prize awarded by members of the regional executive board.
With multiple awards, two regional leadership elections and recognition for their engagement throughout the weekend, the students were excellent representatives of Texas A&M University and the Department of Residence Life.
