Policy Concerning Unattended Children at the Community Center
Community Center Information
Children and adults are equally welcome and encouraged to use the Community Center at University Apartments. Urging residents to develop an interest in meeting others is an important part of our mission. The Department of Residence Life’s goal is to encourage and facilitate the use of the Community Center by residents, parents, grandparents, and children of all ages.
However, it is not the Community Center’s function or purpose to provide childcare or supervision for children while parents or other accompanying adults are outside the Community Center, or busy doing something else within the Community Center. Parents or caregivers should be aware that the Community Center is a public building open to all individuals. Concern for the safety and well being of all our residents is of the utmost concern to Department of Residence Life. Therefore the following policy has been established:
- Children 12 and under cannot be in the Community Center without adult supervision at any time.
- Parents and caregivers are responsible for the conduct and safety of their children at all times while in the Community Center and MUST provide reasonable supervision of their children based on the ages and responsibility of each child.
- Children, like all residents, are required to respect the property of the Community Center and to behave in a manner appropriate to the use of the center. Children who are disruptive, displaying inappropriate behavior or require excessive staff attention may be asked to leave the Community Center.
- If a child is found unattended, police will be called. Parents should be aware of the Texas General Statute regarding child neglect and abuse. A copy of this is available in the Programming Office.
Thank you for helping to make the University Apartments Community Center a safe and enjoyable place for all.
