Personal electric vehicles and micromobility devices (electric scooters, electric skateboards, e-bikes, etc.) used on university grounds must adhere to the procedures outlined in TAMU SAP 24.01.99.M0.01.

Parking and Storage

• Parking and storage of motorcycles and bicycles (electric or manually-operated) is restricted to bike racks, designated motorcycle parking areas, or university provided micromobility storage.
• Electric scooters, electric skateboards, and electric hoverboards (NOT electric bicycles) that meet University requirements for registration may be stored in a student’s residence with roommate consent. Residence Life reserves the right to inspect registration stickers and require removal of noncompliant devices from university housing.
• Devices approved for storage and charging in residence halls or university apartments must be manually maneuvered through the residence hall or apartment building and must not be ridden indoors or on sidewalks or breezeways.
• The device must be removed from the residence hall during the winter break period. Devices left in a student’s residence hall room during winter break closing may be relocated to an approved outdoor storage area. Students who live in apartments that remain open during the winter break may leave devices in their residence during the break as long as the device is not plugged in.
• These vehicles may be impounded if they are left in or on walkways, breezeways, sidewalks, or hallways. Retrieval of impounded vehicles will result in a storage fee being assessed to the owner of the vehicle.

Charging

Micromobility and personal electric vehicles may be charged in a student’s residence as long as the vehicle meets these requirements:

• The device is compliant with all regulations required on campus and per TAMU SAP 24.01.99.M0.01. Devices must comply with UL 2272 and UL 2849. Removable batteries and/or replacement batteries must comply with UL 2271. 
• The device is registered per Transportation Services policy and has the registration sticker applied in a clearly visible location.
• Device chargers with an energy draw over 4 amps are not permitted in residence halls or university apartments.
• Spare batteries must be stored in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and may not be stored if damaged, recalled, swollen, leaking, overheating, or otherwise showing signs of battery deterioration. Batteries may not be disposed of on campus
• Third-party chargers are not allowed to be used in residence halls.
• The device must be charged in the student’s residence, and not in a public area, hallway, or stairwell.
• Devices must be charged in the student’s residence on a hard, noncombustible surface and must not be charged on beds, couches, upholstered furniture, carpeting, or in locations that obstruct means of egress.
• The owner of the device must actively monitor the device and must not leave the residence or sleep while it is charging.
• Charging must be discontinued once the battery reaches full charge. Devices shall not remain connected to charging equipment for extended periods once charging is complete.
• Chargers must be plugged directly into a wall outlet when in use and unplugged when not actively in use

Use on Campus

Regardless of size, motorcycles/mopeds, micromobility devices, personal electric vehicles, and other motor vehicles are not allowed to be driven on any non-roadway area, pathway, sidewalk, handicapped ramp, etc.

Note: This policy does not apply to personal mobility devices intended for persons with disabilities as approved by Disability Resources, which may be stored and charged as needed in a student’s residence.
