SPANISH IMMERSION

About the Community

Spanish ImmersionSpanish Immersion Living Learning Community, or “SÍ” for Spanish Immersion, is intended for students majoring or minoring in Spanish and for students with a general interest in Spanish language or Hispanic culture.

The focus of this Spanish immersion living learning community experience is to provide students an opportunity to live and learn together in a residence hall community that commits to using only Spanish as the language of communication with the educational goal of developing, enhancing, and maintaining
their oral proficiency in the language.

Eligibility

To be eligible for participation, students must:

  1. Take the Spanish placement exam
  2. Enroll in the appropriate class according to the placement exam (you are guaranteed a spot in the course if you participate in the SI program);
  3. In the fall, you must participate actively in the conversation club; and
  4. In the spring, you must take the 300-level conversation class offered in the residence hall through the SI program.

The application is reviewed by a committee of professors in the Spanish department.

Program Components

Fall Semester: varies based on Spanish proficiency exam

Spring Semester: Span 310 Oral Communication –SI Living Learning Community

Attend and actively participate in the Spanish Conversation Club which is comprised of Spanish speaking students at Texas A&M University and members of the Living Learning Community.
A component of the spring semester course for the Spanish Immersion LLC will be to participate in a service-learning course. The course will require engagement in the larger Bryan-College Station community and utilize your Spanish language skills.
