About the Community
Spanish Immersion Living Learning Community, or “SÍ” for Spanish Immersion, is intended for students majoring or minoring in Spanish and for students with a general interest in Spanish language or Hispanic culture.
The focus of this Spanish immersion living learning community experience is to provide students an opportunity to live and learn together in a residence hall community that commits to using only Spanish as the language of communication with the educational goal of developing, enhancing, and maintaining
their oral proficiency in the language.
To participate in the Spanish Immersion, students must:
- Take the Spanish placement exam
- Enroll in the appropriate class according to the placement exam (you are guaranteed a spot in the course if you participate in the SI program);
- In the fall, you must participate actively in the conversation club; and
- In the spring, you must take the 300-level conversation class offered in the residence hall through the SI program.
The application is reviewed by a committee of professors in the Spanish department.
