The TAMU Residence Hall Association (RHA) was presented several awards at this year's National Affiliate College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) held at Arizona State University. The awards are:

  • NACURH 2008-2009 National Case Competition Award: TAMU RHA
  • Southwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (SWACURH) 2008 Student Award for Leadership Training: TAMU RHA
  • SWACURH 2008-2009 Thanks for Hosting recognition: Jeremiah Sherman, RHA Regional Associate Director for Finance
  • SWACURH 2009 No Frills Conference School of the Year Award: Texas A&M RHA
  • SWACURH 2009 No Frills Conference Dan Hallenbeck Achievement Award: Dr. Craig Rotter
  • SWACURH 2009 No Frills Conference President of the Year Award: Dustin Grabsch
  • SWACURH 2009 No Frills Conference Building RHA of the Year Award: TAMU RHA
  • SWACURH 2008-2009 DeWayne Davidson Award: Dr. Craig Rotter

Residence Hall Association Award Named for Ron SasseRHA Award Named for Ron Sasse

The Residence Hall Association decided to name its annual Student Leader of the Year Award for Ron Sasse, former director of Residence Life. The group says Sasse possess the qualities detailed as criteria for the award itself: actively supporting/planning/preparing social justice and diversity programming, demonstrating good communication skills and employing different media to engage historically unengaged groups, assisting in large-scale collaboration efforts that engage multiple communities and demonstrating a long-term commitment to the organization and contributing regionally and nationally. A Student Senate resolution expressing appreciation for Sasse's work on the New Residence Hall Site Feasibility Study is available at http://senate.tamu.edu/legislation/resolutions/SR09S12.

Organization of the Year!

The TAMU Residence Hall Association (RHA) was selected among all of the the Sponsored Student Organizations and was recognized at the All-University Awards Ceremony as the Student Organization of the Year!

Congratulations to RHA for all their efforts and accomplishments that attributed to them winning this outstanding award!

Dan Mizer, Associate Director - Facilities & Operations, came home from the Southwest Associate of College and University Housing Officers (SWACUHO) Conference sporting two prestigious awards.

He was awarded "Top Program" for this program, "So You Think You Have Bedbugs?" Dan is our resident "Bed Bug Expert". Just ask him anything about bed bugs and watch his eyes start to sparkle!

Dan also received the James L. Gibson Exceptional Service Award. This award was created by the Recognition Committee in 1974 to recognize individuals who have contributed outstanding service and dedication to SWACUHO, past and present.No more than two awards may be presented annually. To receive this award, a SWACUHO member must serve in a manner that is truly exceptional. Since it's creation, only 17 members have been honored with this award.

Congratulation to Dan on his accomplishments and his continued service to our region!

The TAMU Residence Hall Association (RHA) recently came back from the No-Frills 2009 Conference that was held at Texas Christian University. They won all four awards that they bid for and they will have two Regional Board of Directors positions for the 2009-2010 school year.

The awards are:

  • Building RHA of the Year
    • The SWACURH (Southwest Affilate of College and University Residence Halls) Building RHA of the Year Award is created to recognize a RHA that has made significant steps in the development of its organization. The award honors the RHA that displays tremendous effort and improvement in its residence hall environment from the previous academic year to the present.
  • Dan Hallenbeck Achievement Award
    • This award consists of a plaque and induction into the Assoiciation of Alumni and Friends of NACURH (National Affiliation of College and University Residence Halls). A maximum of one award per year is given out. It is named after Dr. Dan Hallenbeck, former NACURH Advisor, this award recoginizes outstanding and continuous service to NACURH of a full-time housing or student affairs professional.  
  • President of the Year
    • This award recognizes the outstanding service of a residential housing organiztion President at an affiliated school who has had a direct positive impact on their school, region and NACURH.
  • School of the Year
    • The SWACURH School of the Year Award is the highest honor a member school can attain. The award recognizes outstanding achievements on the campus level by a residence hall organization and associated groups, as well as contributions on regional and national levels.

The Regional Board of Directors:

  • Dustin Grabsch - will serve as the Regional Communications Coordinator for Adminastration and Development
  • David Greaney - will serve as the Regional Communications Coordinator for Records and Technology

Congratulations for an outstanding showing for our RHA! Way to go!
