As a volunteer host, you must abide by the following:

  1. Guest Actions - As a residence hall host, be aware that you are responsible for your guests and their actions, at all times during their visit to A&M. Make sure your guests know the Residence Hall Policies.
  2. Stay With Guests – As the residence hall host, you must be with your guests when they are in the residence halls. This includes not leaving guests alone in your room, and escorting them in, out, and throughout the building. Some organizations may require that you also stay with guests outside of the residence halls, at all time during their stay on campus.
  3. No Alcohol or Drugs – Guests should not be offered alcohol or drugs, while in the residence halls. As hosts, it is your responsibility to make sure the guests do not have access to these in the residence halls. Hosts who are 21 year of age or older should not have alcohol or drugs in their room.
  4. No Smoking – As host, please make sure guests know that smoking is not allowed in the residence halls. If you have a guest who is a smoker, please point out appropriate locations for smoking, outside of the residence hall.
  5. Escorting Guests – As the host, you are required to have your guests escorted every time guest is entering or exiting the building, and walking about the building. You may be found responsible for guests found wandering the residence halls without an escort.
  6. Keys and IDs – Do not, under any circumstances, give guests keys to the room or your student ID to access the residence hall. Do not encourage guests to follow other residents into the residence hall. Never leave your room door unlocked to give them access in and out of your room.
  7. Emergency Situations – Please make sure guests know what to do in case of an emergency (how to call for help, how to exit the building during an alarm, where to find exits, etc.).
  8. Residence Hall Staff – When available, introduce the guests to your R.A. or Hall Director. This will provide staff with the opportunity to get to know who is visiting in the building.

Additional information:

  1. Organization Contact – Know who in the organization you should contact, in case of problems or an emergency with the guest.
  2. Problem Guests – If you have a problem with your guests, please inform the organization immediately. Problem guest can be sent home or reassigned to another host.
  3. Change of Plans – Please try and notify the organization, at least 48-hours in advance, if you will be unable to be a residence hall host. If possible, find someone willing to take over your host responsibilities for the organization.
