History - Moore Hall

Moore Hall is named after General George F. Moore and was constructed in 1942. General Moore graduated from Texas A&M University in 1908 after gaining fame as a football player. He served as a Major and Lieutenant Colonel in World War I and was appointed Colonel in 1938 while on duty as the Commandant of Texas A&M University. General Moore's finest hour came when he was placed in command of the harbor defense on Corregidor in May 1942. His service on the embattled fortress earned him a Distinguished Service Cross. He was promoted to Major General during the gallant defense of Corregidor. When Corregidor fell, General Moore was taken prisoner by the Japanese and was not released until September 1945.
