Statement on Harassment and Discrimination

Texas A&M University is a community of diverse individuals. Amidst our diversity, we must strive to understand the individuality and uniqueness of those around us. We need to learn from one another in an atmosphere of positive encouragement and mutual respect. The Department of Residence Life believes that we are individually and collectively responsible for our behavior and are fully accountable for our actions.

Bigotry has no place within our Residence Hall community, nor does the right to denigrate another human being. All those within our community should be aware that any form of harassment and any form of illegal discrimination against any individual is inconsistent with the values and ideals of the University community. The Department of Residence Life is committed to addressing all forms of discrimination, harassment, and insensitivity directed toward any member of the University community. We will strive to protect the rights and privileges and to enhance the self-esteem of all community members. Likewise, the Department of Residence Life will not accept ignorance, humor, anger, alcohol, or substance abuse as an excuse, reason, or rationale for acts of discrimination, harassment, or insensitivity.

All of us who work and live in Texas A&M University community have chosen to live here and are committed to these principles which are an integral part of our purpose, values and daily activities.
